History

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University.

Welcome! I bring you greetings from the Dynamic Delta Kappa Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. I am honored to serve as the 2022-2024 Basileus of this great chapter and to be a member of this wonderful sorority.

Chartered in January 1974 and based in Plainfield, NJ, Delta Kappa Sigma serves Union, Middlesex and Somerset Counties. All that we do at the local level is directly linked to the Sorority’s mission to enhance the quality of life for women and their families globally through community service, civil and social action. From our efforts through support of our national programs and partnerships such as Operation Big Bookbag, Youth Symposium, St. Jude’s and the March of Dimes, we are committed to achieving progress in the areas of health awareness, education and leadership development within the communities where we live and work. To effectively continue the work needed within our communities, we partner locally with many other organizations such as Girl Scouts, National Pan-Hellenic Council, in addition to the City of Plainfield.
